Respite care
provides time off for family members/caregivers who
are assisting someone who is ill, injured or frail.
Caregiving is a demanding task, and it is easy for
caregivers to neglect their own health and well
being when they are involved with their loved one's
needs. Caregivers need time off from their
caregiving responsibilities in order to do things
they enjoy, to relieve them of stress and to prevent
burnout. Caregivers may experience depression,
anxiety, exhaustion or feel overwhelmed. These
feelings are understandable, as it is a difficult
time for them. Respite care will assist in
providing them a balance in life.
